Eleven distinguished personalities on Tuesday issued a statement urging the government and people of Bangladesh to boldly resist the destructive attempts and activities by Hefajat-e-Islam and anti-liberation forces as the nation celebrates Mujib Borsho and golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence.
The statement was signed by Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Hasan Azizul Haque, Anupam Sen, Sarwar Ali, Ramendu Majumdar, Abed Khan, Abdus Selim, Mafidul Haque, Nasiruddin Yousuff, Shahriar Kabir and Muntassir Mamoon.
At a time when world leaders are all praising the prime minister’s leadership and Bangladesh’s achievements, Hefajat and anti-liberation forces carried out destruction in several places including Brahmanbaria, reads the statement.
Such mayhem during the visit of Narendra Modi, prime minister of India which played a crucial role during the Liberation War, came as an insult.
“We want to see our government take definitive steps against these communal forces,” the statement reads, adding that the government must use its authority to face these forces’ declaration of war against Bangladesh and Bangabandhu.
They also called on devout Muslims of the country to resist and reject all ill-attempts by Hefajat and Jamaat-e-Islami against the freedom and non-communal spirit of the country.
Stating Islam is a religion of peace, they said that misusing mosques and madrasas for anti-state activities will make society and state unstable and cannot be acceptable.
