Country’s eminent citizens have demanded of the concerned authority immediate rescue of Abu Bakar Siddique, husband of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA).
They made the demand at a press conference held by Transparency International of Bangladesh (TIB) at Brac Centre in the city on Thursday.
We are deeply concern over the abduction of Siddique, Managing Director of Hamid Fashion, who was abducted from Fatulla area in Narayanganj on Wednesday afternoon.
Though the assurance was given from the government’s highest authority to rescue him, we have not found yet any development from the law enforcers, they added.
Referring to the recurrent incidents of kidnap, they said, the people are losing their faith and confidence over the law enforcement agencies.
They demanded of the assistance of the Prime Minister in this connection.
Professor Anisuzzaman, Syed Abul Maksud, TIB’s Trustee Board Chairman Advocate Sultana Kamal, TIB’s Executive Director Dr Iftekaruzzaman, Barrister Sara Hossain, Dr Shadhin Malik, M Hafizuddin Khan, Dr Hamida Hossain, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder and Dr Sadeka Halim, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Sultana Kamal said it is the duty and responsibility of the law enforcers and the government to rescue Abu Bakar Siddique. If they failed to do the work, they will have to face questions.
She said when the state gives shelter of injustice, its bad effect has to be borne by all the people.
Syed Abul Maksud said the incident shocked all of us. He urged the law enforcement agencies to rescue him applying their ‘supreme strategies and merits’.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, wife of abducted businessman Siddique, said twenty four hours have already elapsed but yet the lawmen could not make any progress.
“They have assured me about rescue. I am optimist on his return because I will have to live with hope. What I can do being worried”, she said.

Responding to a journalist, she said, her husband and Minister Nazrul Hamid Bipu
maintained a good relation with each other.
She called for bringing down those companies against whom she fought in legal fight and won.
“I won against some big companies in legal fight. Due to the legal fight, they suffered financial losses. They should be brought under law,” she said.
Her husband has no enmity with anyone. His only offence is that he supported her, she said.
Dr Hamida Hossain said 39 abduction incidents have taken place in the country recently. Of them, only four were rescued alive and 12 bodies recovered. The whereabouts of the rest abducted persons could not be known.
She urged the law enforcers to take the statement of persons who were rescued alive as well as to take measures so that such incident could recur. “Their statements might also helpful in rescuing abducted Abu Bakar Siddique,” she added.
