6 power stations closed: Repeated load-shedding paralyses lives in S-W region

Repeated load-shedding has paralyzed lives of inhabitants of South-western region. Study of students particularly the ongoing HSC examinees are hampering for the load- shedding. Six power units remained closed and as such load- shedding has increasing with the increasing of scorching heat.
Massive load-shedding paralyzed the lives of Khulna city dwellers and also the lives of south-western region of the country. Due to shut down of electric line, the load-shedding is causing unbearable sufferings to the people of 21 districts of south-western region, sources said.
It is alleged that the electricity staff are intentionally making artificial electric crisis, creating immense suffering to the inhabitants of Khulna region.
West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited is engaged for supplying electricity at 21 districts of the south-western part of the country. Due to shut down of 6 power units, desired electricity is not being produced and as such load-shedding is causing distress in this region.
Concerned sources said, the demand of electricity in this region is 758.4 Mega watt while 474,4 Mega watt electricity is produced. But due to having old and defective lines, repairing lines and changing lines, load-shedding is going on repeatedly. Among 20 units 6 ones are closed and this is also the cause of load-shedding. Eight power units are fully closed. They are- 110 & 60 Mega watts of Goalpara at Khalishpur, Khulna central power plant, Bheramara-2 & 3, Barisal gas turbine 1 & 2 and Bhola rental power.
Goalpara 110 unit at city’s Khalishpur area has been closed since long which could produce 50-55 Mega watt power. 60 unit of the same power station has also been closed for a long time.
Repeated load-shedding has been causing serious troubles particularly for the students, professional bodies and journalists. Students can not continue their lessons, professional bodies can not do their works properly and journalists can not send important news and photos due to unbearable load-shedding.
Journalist Sheikh Abu Aslam Babu, journalist Sheikh Ezaz Ahmed, journalist Debobroto Das and journalist Kazi Rafiqul Islam told this correspondent that due to repeated load-shedding they could not send news and photos in time.
Sonia Begum, a housewife and resident of Boyra residential area said, My son Fahad who is sitting for HSC exam this year, can’t take his preparations well due to repeated load-shedding.
Khaleda Aktar, a housewife and resident of Daulatpur Pabla Shobuj Shangho cross road area said, My class six student daughter Sadia can’t prepare her lessons due to load-shedding.
Some staffs of WZPDCL do not pay any heed to the persons who give complain for electricity. Rather, they often misbehave with the common people. Besides, they shut down the electricity whimsically. Long time’s load-shedding has been suffering acutely.
On condition of anonymity, an Engineer of division-2 said, “We do not shut down electricity intentionally, we do it due to reasonable causes.”
The deficiency of power has been increasing everyday. On Sunday, at 21 districts, demand of power was 1313.09 Megawatt while the supply was only 1037.09 MW on that day, according to WZPDCL sources.
Md. Shahidul Islam, an Engineer of Barisal region said, Load-shedding problem would reduce gradually after renovation of the closed power units.
Engineer Milon of Bheramara in Kushtia region also echoed with Engineer Shahidul Islam.
Md. Mamunur Rahman, Executive Engineer of division-2 said, “We are trying our best to reduce load-shedding.”
Engineer Shafiq Ahmed, Managing Director of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) said, PDB is engaged for producing electricity, but WZPDCL only supplies the same. Electricity is not got as per demand and as such some power plants are remained closed.
