National Desk :The Victory Day was celebrated in different districts and its adjacent areas through different programmes on Wednesday amid huge enthusiasm and festivity. Our correspondents and agencies report:Bagerhat Correspondent says: The Victory Day was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas through various programmes and huge enthusiasm and festivity on December 16 in commemorating those who sacrificed their lives for the Liberation War.Scores of political, socio-cultural, volunteer, professional bodies and organisations placed floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Shaheed Minar at Dashani Squire. Md. Jahangir Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat and Nijamul Haq Molla, Police Super, Bagerhat placed floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Saheed Minar ceremonially on behalf of Bagerhat district administration and police administration respectively.Bagerhat Press Club, Bagerhat Bar Association, Bagerhat Govt. P. C. College, different political parties and organiswations also placed the floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.Chuadanga Correspondent reports: The Victory Day was celebrated in Chuadanga district headquarters and its four upazilas of the district with a fresh pledge to materialist the dreams of the martyrs and lead the country to prosperity by eradicating poverty diseases and illiteracy. To mark the Day the district administration chalked out a week long elaborate programmer jointly with different socio- cultural organization. Booming of 31 Gun salute placing wreaths at sadar thana square and hosting National flag atop all public and Government building. The high light of the day was the march past participated by police, Ansar, V,D,P Boyscouts, Girl guides and the members of various children’s organization, D,C and SP of Chuadanga were present at the march-past. RU Correspondent says: The Victory Day was celebrated at Rajshahi University campus on Wednesday with paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the country’s liberation war in 1971.The university authorities and different political and socio-cultural organizations of the campus celebrated the day with much enthusiasm.The national and university flags were hoisted atop the administrative building, residential hall and other buildings of the university with rising of the sun while different buildings were decorated with colorful lightings.The day’s programme on campus began with placingwreaths at the university Shaheed Minar by the Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin at 6:30am where RU Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin Ahmed were present, among others.They observed one minute silence there in respect of martyrs.Later, Rajshahi University Teacher’s Association, different cultural and political organizations and hall authorities placed wreaths at shaheed minar.RU VC along with other high officials also placed wreaths at the university mass grave of the campus.Narsingdi Correspondent reports: Narsingdi district administration chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the Victory Day in a befitting manner. A discussion meting also was held organized by district administration at Narsingdi Zilla Shilpokala auditorium presided over by Deputy commissioner Abu Hana Morshad Jaman, It was addressed by District Commander Bangladesh Mukijoddha Sangsad, Narsingdi district Unit Abdul Motaleb Pathan, Police super Amena Begum, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Suraiya Begum, Deputy Commissioner (Rev) Kamal Hossain, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Rehan Uddin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Motakabbir Ahammad and Secretary of Narsingdi Pressclub Makhon Das accordingly six upazilas of the district observed the Victory Day with due respect.Netrakona Correspondent reports : The Victory Day celebrated here with pomp and gaiety.Netrakona district administration, different socio-cultural organizations, professional groups, educational institutions and political parties including Awami League, Jatiya party, JSD and BNP also chalked out various programs in observance of the day.The day’s program formally started with booming of 31 gun-salute and placing of floral wreaths at the freedom fighters memorial monuments and independence memorial monuments here at the sun rising period. Improved diet was served at the jail, hospitals and orphan houses.A fancy football match was held between DC XI and Pourashava XI at the stadium in the afternoon.BSS from Rangpur reports: People from all walks in the society observed the Victory Day on Wednesday marking a new renaissance amid unprecedented enthusiasm everywhere in Rangpur division.The cheering people irrespective of caste, creed, religion and tribe started rushing to the Shahed Minars in the district and upazila towns with floral wreaths to pay rich tributes to the martyrs since the zero hours.The Day was observed with a fresh demand for immediate completion of war crimes trial for building a safe, happy, prosperous and non-communal Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.In Rangpur city, the district administration, City Corporation, Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations, socio-cultural, professional and business organisations, educational institutions and freedom fighters chalked out elaborate programmes.The observance began at zero hours with 31- gun salute at Police Lines Ground and placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and Swadhinota Smriti Stambha ‘Arjan’ at Modern Mour in the city.City Mayor Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, Acting DIG Humayun Kabir, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar and Police Super Abdur Razzaque first placed the wreaths.BSS from Narayanganj adds: The four-day long programnes marking the Victory Day have been concluded here on Wednesday with the call to resist militancy and extremism from the country.The day’s programmes began with the booming of 31-gun salute at one minute past 12 last night at district police lines. They organized mock fight between freedom fighters and the Pakistan occupation forces and received praise from the audience. Deputy commissioner gave away prizes among the winners after the display.BSS from Khulna reports: People of Khulna celebrated the 45th Victory Day on Wednesday paying rich tributes to the three million martyrs for their supreme sacrifice for the country and the numerous women who were tortured, violated and killed during the Liberation War.On this day in 1971, the Pakistan army surrendered at Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan) at 4.31 pm in Dhaka.To mark the day, different organizations including government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, educational institutions, political parties and professional bodies organised different programmes honouring the national heroes during the Liberation War, waving national flags, singing patriotic songs, and calling for defeating militant forces and those who are trying to foil the trials of war criminals while resisting all kinds of communal force.Khulna district administration celebrated the Bangalees’ glorious victory over the Pakistani occupation forces, pledging to establish a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation war.The day was heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn at Khulna Police Lines Ground.
