A Dhaka court yesterday rejected remand pleas of police against 24 members of the Islami Chhatri Sangstha and also their bail petitions.
Magistrate Ataul Haque of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the orders after hearing on Thursday afternoon. However, the court passed order allowing female police to interrogate the accused.
Earlier, Sheikh Md Qumruzzaman, Police Station Sub-Inspector and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced the
accused to the court seeking a five-day remand for each of the accused.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive at Khilgaon and nabbed the students on Wednesday morning from a secret meeting of the Islami Chhatri Sangstha.
The accused students are Tanjina-Binte-Khair, Farzana Akhter Luna, Shamsunnahar and Fatema Zannat of Rajshahi University; Atia Jahan and Subaita Sara of Dhaka University; Mahbuba, Ayesha Akhter, Salma Nasrin, Fatima Farhana and Farhana Akhter of Home Economics College; Sumaiya and Farzana of Shahjalal Science and Technology University, Sylhet; Zakia Khan of Eden Girls’ University College; Farzana Begum, Hafiza Siddiqua, Muntahana and Habiba of Bangladesh Agriculture University; Sumaiya Siddiqua of Islami University; Nur Jahan and Rounaq of Jagannath University; Ima of Savar Model College; Fatema Zannat of Chittagong University and Salma of BUET.
