Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Saturday said the government will shut down all the tanneries in the city’s Hazaribagh area if those are not relocated within the stipulated time.
He said this in a discussion meeting organised by Tannery Workers’ Union on its 50th founding anniversary at Hazaribagh Tannery Mor.
The minister also warned the tannery owners of cancelling their plot allocations at the Tannery Industrial Estate in Savar if they fail to relocate the factories there within the given time.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow progress in the relocation of tanneries, he said the government will not take the responsibility of the owners’ failure
in shifting the tanneries. The government has ordered the relocation of tanneries from Hazaribagh to the industrial estate at Savar by March next year.
The discussion meeting was chaired by Tannery Workers Union president Abul Kalam Azad.
