DNA samples collection begins to identify deceased: Relatives mourn and cry for victims

The mourning and bemoaning by the relatives and family members of the fire victims who died or lost their limbs at the blaze of BM Container Depot in Sitakunda continue for their irreparable loss.
The family members who have received the bodies have buried them after their rituals. But those who have not been identified yet are undergoing through DNA Test before handing over to the relatives.
On the other hand, the seriously wounded and burnt sustained people who are under medical treatment are suffering the worst along with the relatives.
In the fire incidents, some of the people including the three firefighters are still missing and relatives are waiting with photographs for their return.
Fire leader of Sitakunda Fire Services Emran Hossain Majumder who went to douse the fire is still missing. Him family members have reached Chattogram from Chandpur to get his body.
Emran’s wife, two children and his other family members are crying for him.
His brother Soleman Hossain Majumder said, “I had the last call with my brother at 8am on Saturday. He told me about the fire incident. In the morning we come to know my brother has died. We want to get back his body.” Emran joined the Fire Service at 2001, his family members said.
Another firefighter Ripon Chakma died at the fire caught at the BM Container Depot. His colleagues said they sipped tea together even two hours before the incident.
After the identification of his body, the family members received his body for burial in Rangamati.
Team leader Ripon Chaka has his wife and two daughters. But now his family members are wailing for the irreparable loss.
Fire fighter Rana Mia (22) has been buried in his village Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj district on Monday after the rituals.
His father Pappu Mia, mother Renu Begum were crying over the body of their young son. The locals were also shocked at the death of this young man.
Ibrahim Hossain, who died in the fire explosion while he was on live video streaming of the incident, was buried at his village home in Jashore on Monday.
Ibrahim’s nephew Shimul Hossain said, “On Saturday night, Ibrahim like others was on facebook live of the incident. Suddenly, a huge explosion was heard. Then his mobile phone was off. Later we find his body in the Chattogram Medical College Hospital.”
Ibrahim who was an employee of Pran-RFL Group married one and a half year ago in his own village. His wife is now pregnant. A pall of mourning is looming large in his family and his village.
The fire incident at the Depot has killed 41 people including fire fighters. Now the bodies are being handed over after identification. So far 22 bodies have been handed over to the family members.
But such death in fire has shocked the family members and the whole nation.
UNB adds: An expert team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has started collecting DNA samples to identify those killed in the deadly fire at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram, said police on Monday.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Chattogram Range Anwar Hossain said the family members of the deceased are providing samples for DNA test with the help of police.
He said a total of 41 bodies were brought to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Among those, 22 were identified and handed over to their respective families till this morning.
DNA samples are being collected to identity of the remaining 18 bodies. The bodies will be handed over to families after identifying those based on the DNA test report, said the official.
A booth has been set up for DNA samples collection by Chattogram district police in front of the emergency unit of CMCH next to the ‘help cell’ of the district administration.
Meanwhile, fire fighters continued their operation on Monday to douse the deadly blaze at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram even after 38 hours of the incident that so far claimed 50 lives and left several hundred wounded.
