Locals have become vocal in demanding the reinstatement of Abdul Gafur Mia, the popular chairman of the temporarily sacked Majpara Union, general secretary of Atgharia Upazila Awami League and the best of the 72 UP chairmen of Pabna district. Thousands of leaders, activists and locals staged a human chain and protest rally at Parkhidirpur Bazar, a remote rural area 20 km away from Ishwardi, yesterday evening. Majpara Union Awami League president Intaz Ali Kha presided over the human chain and protest rally, former chairman of Atgharia upazila Isarat Ali, panel chairman Azgar Ali member, Jabed Ali member, Shahidullah member, Awami League leader Iqbal Sheikh and Jalal Uddin among others.
The speakers demanded exemplary punishment for those who made false allegations against the innocent UP chairman Abdul Gafur Mia, who is known to be a friend of the people and the poor. It has hurt people’s minds. At the same time, some members of the Kuchkri Mahal have lodged a complaint against Gafur Miah as part of an attempt to fish in muddy waters.
The speakers drew the attention of the responsible officials of the concerned ministries including the Prime Minister and demanded the reinstatement of UP Chairman Gafur Mia as the Chairman. Despite the torrential rains, the conspirators were intimidated as thousands of leaders and activists of different levels and people of different ages in the area took part in the human chain and protest rallies out of love and honesty.
