Govt must take initiative: Rehman for dialogue among parties

Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) said on Friday that there is need for a parliamentary elections in the country in the interest of democracy.
He said this as the chief guest at a prize giving ceremony of a debate competition, organized by ATN Bangla at city’s Bashundhara city.
The country which won its liberation through a war in 1971, he said, cannot pass through undemocratic process. There is need for dialogue among the political parties, he said adding the government has to take the initiative for it.
Election has to be held in a free and fair manner, where people will be able to exercise their voting right freely, he said.
The big challenge for the political parties, Professor Sobhan said, is to arrange participatory elections. They need to sit for dialogue to work out the mechanism for it, he said.
 The political parties should keep in mind that they are to serve the people, Professor Rehman Sobhan said adding the blame game has to be stopped. There is no serious dialogue among the countries major political parties, which is not seen elsewhere in the world, he said.
The function was also addressed by Noazesh Ali Khan and Lion MK Bashar.
