Regional Bishwa Ijtema starts in Barisal

A 3 -day long Regional Bishwa Ijtema, the Global Congregation has started on 10 acres of land at Nabagram Road area of Barisal city from Thursday evening through the aam-bayaan (general sermon) of Mawlana Rafikul Islam, district Tablig Jamaat Amir.
It is scheduled to be end through Akheri Munajat on early Monday.
The regional Ijtema arranged by dividing 64 districts of the country in two segments (32 district x 2) to avoid heavy rush at the central Ijtema at Tongi, organisers said.
The event focuses on prayers and supplication seeking divine blessings from Allah and does not allow political discussion.
The local management committee estimated the number of attendees of Barisal regional ijtema 2015 to be 2 lakhs.
The tradition of Ijtema was initiated by an Indian savant named Muhammad Ilyas al-Kandhlawi in 1927 at Shahranpur of Uttar Pradesh in India and began as a small group of religious-minded individuals gathering at a local mosque.
