They viewed this at the discussion organised by Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) and Brac Urban Development Programme (UDP) in observance of the World Habitat Day-2021.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa inaugurated the day by leading
the rally on the city streets. Later, a discussion was held at the conference room of the City Bhaban with Brac Rangpur District Coordinator KM Zahedul Islam in the chair.
Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Md Ruhul Amin Miah, also a mechanical engineer, attended the discussion as special guest. Secretary of RpCC Rashedul Islam, its Administrative Officer Nayem Ul Haque, Councilor Rahamatullah Babla, Regional Coordinator of UDP Apurbo Saha, its Field Coordinators Nishit Kumar Biswas and Rashidul Hasan Raju addressed the event.
The speakers said the World Habitat Day is observed every year to reflect the state of the world’s towns and cities and emphasise the basic rights of all to receive adequate shelter. Cities are responsible for around 70 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions with transport, buildings, energy and waste management accounting for the bulk of urban greenhouse gas emissions.
The future of the planet depends on national, regional and local governments and organizations, communities, academic institutions, private sector and other stakeholders working together to create sustainable, carbon-neutral, inclusive cities and towns.
