Some officials of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) are allegedly involved in appointment of recruits in exchange of money which is dubbed as appointment business as many vacancies have been created there.
These officials from different sections of the university allure the job seekers that they can give jobs to them as Office Assistant and MLSS at BSMMU if they pay a fixed amount of money.
They also tell them that an office order has been pasted in the office board to appoint several hundred employees in the two categories. Some of them are on permanent basis and some on master roll basis, they added.
However, higher officials of BSMMU said that without publishing advertisement these appointments are not possible on permanent basis as per laws of the university.
They said some master roll appointments may be possible under the new move.
The officials involved with the recruitment business said appointment on permanent basis is also going on. They said about 87 persons have been appointed by January this year and 23 got jobs in the first week of February. And all of them have paid a fixed amount of money, they added.
According to the officials, money demanded for appointment on permanent basis to the post of Office Assistant is Tk 6 lakh and the salary will be Tk 26,000 per month. For office assistant in Master roll one needs to pay Tk 3 lakh and the salary will be Tk 23,000 per month.
For permanent job of office assistant advance payment of Tk 2 lakh needed while for master roll one has to pay Tk 1 lakh, they said.
For permanent appointment to the post of MLSS, one has to pay Tk 3 lakh and on master roll basis Tk 2 lakh. Their fixed salary will be Tk 16,000. They need to pay Tk 50,000 as advance payment. After getting appointment letter the total amount of money must be paid within days for every post, they added.
When contacted, the Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU Professor Dr. Kamrul Hasan Khan told The New Nation yesterday that, “The allegation of appointment business is not true. If anyone found involved in such activities we must punish them.”
He also said, “Some vested quarters are involved to defame my image. Huge development works are taking place in my tenure. Some quarters could not bear it.”
About the incident centering appointment of 200 nurses recently in the varsity, the VC said some quarters tried to harm my image but they failed.
“They alleged that the nurses appointments were done violating laws. But finally they failed to prove anything illegal in the process,” Professor Kamrul Hasan Khan said.
Other officials however alleged in name of ad hoc appointment of the nurses, the authorities were involved to illegal works.
“They appointed those nurses who had given them money earlier for permanent employment. After suspending the process of nurses’ appointment they again appointed the nurses in different ways,” said a senior official preferring anonymity.
He said, “It is nearly an open secret to appoint on ad-hoc or master roll basis workforce by taking money. It needs to be stopped.”
