Business Desk :
Top leaders of the recruiting business strongly urged the government to keep open the labour market as usual for every authorised recruiting agency by abolishing the syndicate involved in the labour migration process especially in Malaysian market.
Sommilito Somonnoy Front under Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) made the demand at a human chain in front of National Press Club in the city on Tuesday.
Sommilito Somonnoy Front President Dr Mohammad Faruque presided over the programme. He claimed that only 10 syndicate members of recruiting agencies are looting public money through depriving the governmentand exploiting the poor overseas job-seekers.
‘At present, the overseas job-seekers are paying above Tk 4 lac to reach Malaysia instead of the government fixed Tk 37,000 mainly’, Faruk said.
The syndicate members have snatched away the professional right of the 2,000 authorised recruiting agencies across the country, claimed Faruk.
The government is losing huge chunk of revenue by letting away the chance of sending more population overseas since the syndicate practices monopoly and also lacks professional efficiency, he added.
Actually, currently, the inward remittance inflow is playing a pivotal role for maintaining steady growth of the country, but the total labor migration process is severely hampered for the unethical practices of the syndicate members, mentioned Dr Faruk.
“If we want to receive more remittance, definitely we have to stop such malpractices of the syndicate members for attaining a sustainable economy”, he added.
The syndicate members are conducting the anti-state activities under the patronisation of the high-ups, he claimed. He, however, urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to immediately intervene so that all the victims and the deprived recruiting agencies could survive.
He disclosed the rumour that again the same syndicate members have come strong to form another new syndicate comprising some 25 to 30 members to exploit the whole system once again as the Malaysian labour market is all set to re-open.
“It is very unfortunate that the syndicate members are destroying the positive image of the country as well as hampering the labour migration process. So, it is time befitting demand to abolish the negative mechanism of the syndicate members which would help establishing accountability and transparency in labor migration process in the country”, he also added.
Mostofa Mahmud, owner of Micro Export House, Seraj Mia, Managing Director of Liza Overseas, Dr. J H Gazi, Redowan Khan Borhan, Golam Mostofa Babul among others were also present.
