Record number of polls contenders lose security money

A large number of candidates, including former BNP Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, BNP leader Azizul Bari Helal, Jaamat leader Miah Golam Porowar lost their security money for polling a very small number of votes in the 11th Parliamentary Election held on Sunday across the country.
According to a provision, if a candidate does not get one-eighth of the total valid votes in the JS election, he/she lose security money.
In Bogura, as many as 34 out of 47 candidates, including Hero Alam , lost their security money in seven constituencies. In Khulna, at least 26 candidates out of 35 including Azijul Bari Helal and Miah Golam Porowar lost their security money in the polls to six constituencies of the district.
In Kishoreganj, a total of 26 candidates out of 34 lost their security money in the polls. In this district, JSD Candidate Mohammad Abdur Rahman, Oikyafront candidate Dr Md Saiful Islam, BNP candidates Md Fazlur Rahman, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal, and Md Shariful Alam are among them who lost security money.
In Gazipur, as many as 24 out of 32 candidates, who took part in the election, lost their security money in five constituencies. Two BNP contestants are among the security money loosers.
In Gaibandha, as many as 24 out of 30 candidates lost their security money in four constituencies.
In Joypurhat, 10 out of 14 candidates failed to secure one eighth of given votes in the polls and lost security money.
In Bahula, all candidates of opposition parties have lost their security money in four constituencies.
In Munshiganj, as many as 18 out of 22 candidates lost their security money in five constituencies.
In Cumilla, nearby all candidates of different parties lost their security money in 10 constituencies out of 11.
In Pabna, at least 19 candidates of different political parties lost their security money in five constituencies.
In Patuakhali, at least 16 candidates including former Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdury lost their security money in the polls in four constituencies of the district.
