Record high virus cases 5358 infected, 52 dead

Bangladesh has recorded 5,358 infections as the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day since the pandemic broke out in the country on March 8 2020.
According to the government data, this is the highest number of cases registered in a 24-hour span in the country. Just two days ago, till March 29 the highest number of infection was 5,181.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)’s press release was issued on Wednesday.
The latest figure of cases taking the total number of people infected to 6,11,295, the data showed.
The number of new infections in a single day detected over 5,000 on Wednesday for the third consecutive day.
Besides, the country also witnessed 52 deaths from the disease in the last 24 hours, which is also highest single day fatality in more than seven months. The number was 54 on August 26, 2020.
With this, the total number of deaths reaches 9,046. The death rate stands at 1.48 percent.
A total of 26,931 samples were tested in the period across the country.
The current positivity rate is 19.90 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.09 percent. Besides, at least 2,219 Covid-19
patients have recovered during the time span.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 5,42,399 and the recovery rate at 88.73 percent.
Among the 52 deceased, 38 were males and 14 females while one was between 21-30 years old, five within 31-40, eight between 41-50, eight within 51-60 and 30 were above 60 years old, the press release showed.
