The health authorities reported on Tuesday 64 more deaths from the novel coronavirus, the highest single-day toll since the country’s outbreak began in March.
“Sixty-four people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours,” Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (administration) of DGHS, said in a briefing adding that it is the highest number of deaths due to Covid-19 recorded in a single day so far in the country.
Among the deceased, 52 were males. Most of the deceased were from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.
Of them, seven were between 31-40 years, six between 41-50, 21 between 51-60, 16 between 61-70, 11 between 71-80 and the rest were between 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima said.
With the 64 new fatalities, the death toll now from coronavirus in the country stands at 1,847, with the death rate at 1.27 percent.
Bangladesh remains the 17th worst affected country in the world in terms of the number of cases, according to worldometer.info.
Three thousand six hundred eighty-two people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
With this, the current infection rate is 19.98 percent and the total number of infections in the country is 1,45,483.
The total infection rate so far stands at 18.98 percent.
A total of 18,426 samples were tested in 66 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.
Meanwhile, 1,844 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Tuesday.
The total number of recoveries has reached 59,624 and the current recovery rate is 40.98 percent.
A total of 449 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours.
