Faraz Karim Chowdhury ,son of the lawmaker of Raozan constituency ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury demanded reconstruction of old Kalurghat Bridge famous gateway of South Chattogram and Bandarban Hill d istrict on river Karnaphuly.
He expressed the demand through face book live . Faraz Karim Chowdhury appeared in face book live on Saturday morning with the demand of risky Kalurghat bridge. He said no question of North, south, mohanagar Chattogram rather we are all Chittagonians and we demand total development of greater Chattogram.
He also said in case of development a ctivities , we are all united and no division within us. Faraz Karim depicted a picture of Kalurghat bridge in face book live that this bridge was built during British regime in 1930 over Karnaphuli river . Passenger and goods trains , passenger buses and heavy transports are running over the bridge everday . Despite capacity of goods transports of 5 tons each but heavy goods laden transports with 10 tons or more are regularly crossing the bridge from both sides. Frequently incidents are occurring over the bridge and hence Railway authority declared the bridge risky in 2001 .
As a result any kind of fatal accident may occur in the bridge at any moment. Millions of people irrespective of male, female, juveniles, elderly are suffering centring the tottering bridge. Before construction of karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge, Kalurghat railway bridge was the only gateway of Boalkhali, Anowara, Banskhali, Satkania, Bandarban and coxsbazar amd the commuters, had no alternatives than Kalurghat bridge. Presently about 50 lakh people are residing in these great region and it was a heartfelt demand of us to construct a new Kalurghat bridge beside the tottering railway bridge over Karnaphuli river. He further said in face book live thst being a son of Raozan , I can not avoid the demand of new Kalurghat bridge as son of Chattogram and we are looking towards govt’s mercy .
As a son of a people’s representative, it is my prime duty to do something for the people of this r egion. After construction of new Kalurghat bridge, overall development of industry, trade, communication uplift, medical sector and education will be developed to the maximum extents, he added .
Mentionable that local legislator of Boalkhali Moinuddin Khan Badal once threatened to resign from Sangsad if the Kalurghat bridge is not constructed immediately.
