M M Jasim :
The Education Ministry on Sunday finally admitted the leaking of the questions of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations were leaked.
“We have found that the questions of SSC examinations were leaked. The questions of a subject were completely leaked and several others partially,” Technical and Madrasa Education Secretary of the Ministry Md Alamgir said.
“We have recommended the government to retake the examinations,” he said.
The Secretary disclosed the information after a meeting of the ministry’s panel formed to investigate the alleged question papers leakage. Md Alamgir is the head of the panel. He told the media in the Secretariat that he has no power to take the decision for cancellation the examinations.
“I can just recommend what should be done. But the Education Minister will take the final decision as I have not been given the power,” he said.
A member of the panel wishing anonymity told The New Nation that despite a series of measures, the ministry failed to plug question leakage this year. There is no second option, but retaking of the examinations.
Even, Secretary (Secondary and Higher Education Division) of the Education Ministry Sohrab Hossain on Thursday in the Secretariat said that around 27,000 to 28,000 people are involved in the process of printing question papers and reaching those to the examination centers. In this circumstances, no one can ensure there won’t be any leak.
Meanwhile, the guardians and the students alleged that the Education Minister’s practice of ignorance after the question papers leakage increased the courage of the masterminds of the question papers leakage. And even, the State Minister for Technical and Madrasa Education Md Keramat Ali recently denied the question papers leakage although it was leaked.
“The Ministry knew that the question papers were leaked. But it concealed for several years and destroyed the life of the students as the SSC and HSC passed students failed in the university admission tests,” Abdul Malek, a guardian, said.
The question papers of SSC examinations have been leaking since the beginning of the examination on February 1 despite the Education Ministry’s all out measures to check it.
The law enforcers, however, arrested over one hundred persons allegedly involved in question papers leakage and the education boards suspended over 200 students in this connection.
