Reckless driving kills two in Gafargaon

Two farmers were killed when a sand truck hit them at Gafargaon upazila under Mymensingh. The accident took place at Khurshid Mahal Bridge on the Brahmaputra River on the Gafargaon-Hossainpur road on Monday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Masum Mia, 20, son of Nur Hossain of Khurshid Mahal village under Panchbagh union of Gafargaon upazila and Manik, 30, son of Shahid Mia of the same village.
According to police eyewitnesses and local sources, farmers Masum and Manik were going to work on their crop field in the char area of Khurshid Mahal village on the other side of the Brahmaputra river on Monday morning. The two farmers were crushed to death on the spot by a reckless speeding sand truck coming from behind on the Khurshid Mahal Bridge.
Witnesses claim that the reckless sand-laden truck crushed the two farmers and fled.
Pagla police officer in charge (OC) Rasheduzzaman said the bodies of the two slain farmers had been recovered. Work is underway to identify the deadly truck through CCTV cameras at the toll plaza of the bridge some distance from the scene. Legal action is being taken.
