A ninth-grader girl was killed as a rashly driven bus ran over her in front of Bangladesh Bar Council in the city’s Matshya Bhaban area on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Sabiha Akter Sonali,14, a class IX student of Rahima High School in the city’s Segun Bagicha area. Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said a speeding minibus ran over Sabiha around 8:30am while she was crossing the road on her way to school, leaving her dead on the spot. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Incensed by the death, local people blocked the road at Matshya Bhaban intersection, halting traffic for around 30 minutes during the rush hour. Later, vehicular movement came back to normal due to police intervention. The law enforcers also seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene. — Dhaka, Jan 16 (UNB)
