Tensions created in the city after leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of ruling Awami League, from different government college units holding press conference declared city BCL leaders as persona non- grata.
The press conference was held at district-city AL office on Wednesday noon.
The participants of that press conference calling the city BCL leaders as illiterate, non-students, terrorists, tender-snatchers and toll-collectors demanded before central AL and BCL leaders and local AL lawmaker to form fresh committee for city BCL immediately.
Agitated BCL factional activists of different college units also holding agitation rally and procession tried to block main road of the city by burning tier, but police later removed those.
The press conference was addressed by Rezaul Islam Bappi and Chanchal Das Bappa, presidents of Government Syed Hatem Ali College and Barisal College units of BCL. Huge activists with agitation procession from those two and B M Colleges attended the press conference and agitation rally at about 1:00 pm.
The agitated BCL leaders and activists of the college units declaring Jasimuddin and Asim Dewan, president and secretary of city BCL as persona non grata cautioned that the city committee formed under Jasim-Asim leadership would also be rejected because no honest, dedicated, educated, meritorious activist could perform duties under unfit, non-student, criminal leadership.
