Court Correspondent :
The National Bar Association of Bangladesh on Wednesday commented, if the lawyers and judges do not follow the judgements of the courts on the excuse of alleged lapses or ineffectiveness, the people will gradually lose their confidence on the judiciary and thus a time will come when none will go to the courts for justice.
Senior advocate Shah Md Khasruzzaman, President of the National Bar Association of Bangladesh said this in a press conference yesterday. He termed the recent indescent debate about the Appellate Division’s verdict that upheld the High Court verdict scraping the 16th amendment of the constitution as unexpected and unfortunate.
The lawyers’ registered only non-party national association President said that the verdict of the seven-member Appellate Division bench is uninanimious and historical. In the past, such unwanted debate never happened about any important national issue.
They have also made comment that the game that has begun is like playing with fire. If we are not careful enough, everything will be destroyed and none will be spared. They have also observed that we are now divided in our little interests although we were very much united in 1980s.
The association urged upon the government to ensure full independence of the judiciary, establishment of separate secretariat for the judiciary and to publish gazette notification for the conduct and activities of the judges of the sub-ordinate courts without further delay.
