Hardinge Bridge

The Hardinge Bridge at Paksey on the river Padma in the administrative district of Pabna is a wonderful sign of the railway engineering. It is 5900 feet long, has a steel footpath for the riverside people to cross the river free of cost, two-lane broad gauge lines, 15 piers, each about 150 feet deep into the river. The bridge’s amazing construction with mild steel and super architectural design draw tourists from home and abroad to visit Paksey, the largest railway division in Bangladesh.
Paksey is a town situated in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna District, Rajshahi Division of the country. It is located on the bank of the Padma River. This town is home to Hardinge Bridge, the steel railway bridge named after Lord Hardinge who was the Viceroy of British India from 1910 to 1916.
By this time the bridge has passed 106 years from the date of opening and as such, a new bridge will be constructed at the same site by 2030 A.D. In view of it, we request the government to retain the present super architectural design and to appoint a commendable railway firm so that the work is finished in due time.

Chittagong Is Praiseworthy

I feel proud to be a Chittagonian, because Chittagong has a rich history of heroic performances. It has witnessed revolts when it was a must.
On April 18, 1930 armed independence fighters led by Surya Sen raided armoury of police and auxiliary forces in Chittagong. Two women also took part in the raid, Pritilata Waddedar and Kalpana Dutta.
In 1971 on March 27, the then Major Ziaur Rahman on behalf of Banga Bandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced independence of the country from Kalurghat radio station in Chittagong and revolted against the Pakistan army. The valiant people were able to free the country in nine months.
I hope the sacrifice of the freedom fighters will not go in vain; we will have peace and prosperity.
