Reappointing Dwasa MD
A disputed reappointment has been given to Taqsem Khan as the managing director of Dhaka Wasa for another three-year term. He has been remaining in the same post for the last 11 years and this is the sixth consecutive time he got extended his tenure. But a lot of allegations are against him like mismanagements, irregularities and corruption. Monsoons come and go but the waterlogging problem is still unsolved. Almost all the canals in the city have been grabbed or filled. Besides, the Wasa cannot supply adequate and potable water to the city-dwellers throughout the year. The subscribers frequently find various impurities in the water.
Despite providing poor services, the Wasa has raised its water price several times. Considering all these problems, it was expected that an honest and competent person will be recruited this time.
But Mr. Taqsem is again! What is the reason to renew the term of the same person year after year? Is there no eligible person for this post except Taqsem? Now it is time to amend the Wasa act of 1996 to fix the age limit and term of a person to hold this post.
