Farcical FIFA ranking
World Cup Runners-up Argentina despite poor performance in the South American zone qualification round of the World Cup Football 2018 still hold the top place in the latest FIFA ranking released last week. Contrarily, Brazil, who lead the South America zone, are placed second followed by World Champions Germany, who have good track record in the European zone qualification round, which raises question about the points system..
In Asia Iran, 814 points, continue to lead followed by South Korea, Japan and Asia Champion Australia with 699, 644 and 641 points respectively. Iran who won the continental cup last in 1976, are 29th in the world and there is hardly any doubt that Iran will sail into the final round of the next World Cup.
In Europe, Germany, Belgium and France are the top three, while current Europe Champions Portugal are 4th. In Africa, Senegal, Cote d’ Voire and Senegal secure the first three spots, and in North America, the top three countries are Costa Rica, Mexico and the USA. Finally in South America, Argentina, Brazil and Chile herald the top three places as per the latest FIFA ranking.
