Look down to earth

An analytical write up titled ‘No fuss with FIZZz, please’, written by Syed Ashfaque, published in an English Daily on June 1, 2016 is true to the point, it is a well thought piece of writing.
Yes, we are proud of Mustafizur Rahman. He performed brilliantly in the IPL. We bless him and wish that he will always be successful but we should not go overboard and act like fools.
At one place Syed Ashfaque wrote, “The sports ministry must not go overboard. A reception or awarding of a flat to Mustafizur will only make the government a laughing stock internationally. And this unnecessary pampering may greatly hamper the youngster’s progress to a greater level.”
We hope the government will give heed to this observation and act wisely so that no one will be able to look down on us.

Allocation for railway

The government allocated Tk 11,950 Cr for railway in the national budget, comparing with Tk. 7,719 Cr in the outgoing fiscal. In the budget speech about railway, the finance minister said, “We have plans for construction of new tracks, double gauge lines, construction of new railway bridges/underpasses/ overpasses, modernization of signaling system and collection of passengers’ coaches.”
Of ther total allocation, Tk 2,835 Cr has been allocated for non-development purpose and Tk. 9,115 for development purpose.
But the minister has not said anything about the closed/suspended railway stations, construction of a wonderful bridge like the Hardinge Bridge by 2030, and maintaining discipline in arrival and departure of trains to and from stations. There has not been also said something about reprinting of the railway time-table, which has been remaining suspended since mid-eighties. There is no word about recruitment of staff and personnel in the vacant posts.
The Hardinge Bridge will be closed to traffic from 2030 as its life is already over. Still we think that the government will be serious regarding the construction of a railway bridge at Paksey.
