Judiciary: The last hope

15th amendment of the constitution was a great blow, it turned the country upside down, we have got a hollow feeling which we did not have ever before. As we have lost our voting rights, we feel like outsiders. The government was formed without people’s mandate and there is no opposition political party, which is most unusual.
Among all these unhappiness we became a bit optimistic by learning that the High Court declared the 16th amendment of the constitution that reinstated parliament’s power to remove Supreme Court judges for misbehaviour or incapacity as unconstitutional. Supreme Court is the highest authority, the MPs must not have the right to remove the judges at their whims which is bound to happen if a judgement clash with their interest.
The Supreme Court is our last hope for getting justice, it must not be snatched away from us, and we trust the Apex Court will not waver from its stance.

Folk-lore competition

A private television channel continues a folk-lore competition to take it to the semifinal stage. The initiative is good from the point that it will awaken the almost dead folk-lore songs sung by reputed singers like Abbas Uddin, Abdul Alim, Ferdousy Begum, Nina Hamid, Nadira Begum, Indra Mohan Raj Bangshi, Sharifa Rani and many more.
In this connection, we are of the opinion that all the judges of the competition should be from folk-lore experts.
