Stress on individual events in sports

The number of the individual events in the World Olympic and the Asian Games is almost 99 percents of the total events. That is why most of the countries’ sports governing bodies stress on the individual performance to win gold medals for themselves.
Many small countries of Africa, Asia and the Caribbean islands have written pages, securing gold medals in disciplines like swimming, field and track, rowing, gymnastics, martial art and shooting.
Few Bangladeshi shooters annexed gold medals by this time in the Commonwealth Games to brighten the country’s reputation abroad. They are Atiqur Rahman and Abdus Sattar in Air Pistol in 1990, and Asif Hossain Khan in Air Rifle in 2002. However, a number of Bangladeshi athletes clinched gold in the South Asian Games since its inception in 1985.
Of the team events, Bangladesh earned gold in soccer in the South Asian Games on two occasions only.
So, based on the past performance, any one will suggest the Ministry of Sports to pick up promising athletes from the grass root levels as do China.
