A bad example
It is quite unfortunate that Sheikh Kamal Krira Chakra (SKKC) has not been invited to take part in the Sheikh Kamal International Gold Cup Football Tournament beginning in Chittagong from October 20.
The SKKC deserves the right to participate in the competition. It finished ahead of Dhaka Mohammedan SC and Abahani Limited in the league, but the hosts Chittagong Abahani KC ignored them and thereby trampled the reality.
It is never acceptable that the Sheikh Kamal Krira Chakra is not part of the tournament named after Sheikh Kamal, architect of modern soccer in Bangladesh.
Just at this moment, I remember that famous remark of Greek Emperor Alexander. After landing in India, he said: Selukas! What a strange country it is.

A supreme sacrifice indeed
Muharram is the first month of the Arabic calendar year. The word ‘Muharram’ means sacred and is found in Verse No. 37, Surah Ibrahim of Al-Quran.
The significance of Muharram is limitless. On this day in 680 A.D., Imam Hussain (RA) and his 58 unarmed companions, mostly members of the House of the Prophet Muhammad (SM) fought to the death when the troops loyal to the Damascus ruler Yazid ambushed them at Karbala in Iraq and refused to let them go.
Allah says in Verse No. 107, Surah As-Saffat, “And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice..” Commentator Abdullah Yusuf Ali said that the adjective qualifying sacrifice may be understood in a figurative sense also. It was indeed a great sacrifice which Imam Hussain performed, many years later, in 60 A.H.
In truth, the sacrifice made by the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad saved Islam from pollution and perversion. Afterward many pet historians tried to distort history, but ultimately they failed to hide the truth. But sadly we do not take lessons from history.
