A true football lover :
Sheikh Kamal loved sports. He did not hanker after personal gain. That is why he renamed Iqbal Sporting Club as Abahani KC. It exposed his farsightedness and innocent love for sports, especially football. The club won 15 soccer, 16 cricket and 17 hockey titles in its 43 years’ journey. There are lessons for all in Sheikh Kamal’s patronization for sports.
I remember that the club failed to win the Senior Division Football League title in 1973. But he did not lose heart. Sheikh Kamal through that the country should be acquainted with the modern technique of footnall. In 1974, he appointed a British coach for his club with two objectives-to introduce the country with the modern technique of soccer and to win league title for Abahani KC.
Learning it, WAPDA Club officials also brought an European coach and the Dhaka Senior Division Football League reached its climax and the country’s millions of soccer fans were thrilled to have witnessed the modern technique, skills, foot ad head wok
Abahni Club became unbeaten champions on three years from 1972.
Though Sheikh Kamal did not live long, we remember him for his contribution to sports.
