WC U-20 ignored in Bangladesh
The 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup is the twentieth edition of the U-20 World Cup since its inception in 1977 as the FIFA World Youth Championship. The competition takes place for the first time in New Zealand, the third time on the Oceania soil after Australia staged the 1981 and 1993 editions.
A total of 52 matches will be played in seven host cities.
The tournament started on May 30 with 24 nations from six continents. Defending Champions France failed to qualify while runners-up Uruguay made exit having lost to Brazil in the round of 16 on June 11. Highest six times Champions Argentina were eliminated in the first round, finishing behind Ghana and Austria.
However, in the quarterfinals on June 14, five times Champions Brazil will take on Portugal, Asian representative Uzbekistan face Senegal, USA clash with Serbia, and Germany play Mali.
The sorry part is that both printing and the electronic media are not giving any coverage to the tournament proceedings. Just one or two national dailies are printing reports. This trend hinders the progress of football in any country.
