The power of one’s own work is greater than words to inspire others. One such teacher was Reshma Nahar Ratna of Ayub Ali Government Primary School in the capital. She was not only busy teaching textbooks to children and taking formal exams. Although a teacher, she was also a skilled and successful inspirer as a mountaineer and cyclist.
This young dreamer was on her way to fulfilling her unique dream of conquering Mount Everest. At the same time, she was associated with various initiatives including the library of Biswasahitya Kendra and Alor Ishkul Pathachakra. After climbing the peak of Keokradong in Bangladesh in 2016, she participated in the expedition of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the second highest mountain Mount Kenya in 2018. Most recently, in August last year, she climbed the 6,153-meter-high Stock Kangri Mountain in Ladakh, India, and the 6,250-meter-high Kang Yatse-2. The next goal was to fly the flag of Bangladesh on the highest mountain in the world.
But before the red-green flag flew at the highest peak, the roads of the motherland were bloodied by her warm blood! Ratna died in a road accident in the Parliament Building area of the capital on Friday morning while riding a bicycle. Such an accident on a VIP road is nothing but murder. A brave teacher was killed in an instant. At the same time, a dreamer woman and her unique dream were also killed. We all teachers are deeply saddened by her tragic death and expect a fair trial for the murder. We want safe roads, not death of life and dreams.
