Law of inheritance
Few days ago I saw one of my sisters in a state of depression. When I asked her the reason thereof, she said that she and her husband feared that his nephews would inherit his landed properties and other assets, as they had no son though they were bestowed with two daughters. I asked her again: Who did say so? She said that her husband had heard it from somewhere. I said such interpretation was totally wrong and advised my sister to read the Verses 11, 12 and 176 of Surah An Nisa minutely to know the truth.
I informed her if a man dies leaving behind two daughters but no son and parents, the two daughters will inherit the whole properties. But if the deceased leaves two daughters and parents only, the daughters will receive two-thirds and the parents will receive one-sixth each. Still she was in confusion.
This is not the story of a single individual but of tens of thousands of people like her. The vested groups who want to exploit the ignorant and the women manufactured many stories in the past which many educated persons too believe. I shall request the government and the imams of the mosques to apprise the people the all about the law of inheritance.
