Sunderbans Must Be Saved

Bangladesh was bracing for super cyclone Amphan when the country is already in the grip of coronavirus, the picture being very grim. But by the grace of Al-Mighty Allah the havoc was not like it has been feared.
Sunderbans, our pride, the world’s largest mangrove forest again came to our rescue as it has done many times before. It acts like a buffer slowing the speed of the wind.
The Sunderbans must be preserved. So the government must abandon the plan of building Rampal Power Plant near it. The coal fired plant will destroy the forest and cause serious trouble. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, mangrove forests and coastal wetlands may be able to store up to five times more carbon than the same size tropical forests.
Therefore, we trust the government will act prudently and save the country from harms way.

Death Of Aspiring BD Immigrants

Twenty-six Bangladeshis have been killed by relatives of local brokers on their way to Italy from the Libyan coast. Another 11 people were injured. Many have drowned in the Mediterranean before. Yet illegal travel abroad does not stop. Many are risking their lives to make a living in Europe. It is like buying death by spending lakhs of rupees. But these souls could do something good by capitalizing on this money from the country. We all have an idea to either get a government job or go abroad. We need to get out of this trend. We have to become entrepreneurs and do something. We have to have this courage and dream that one day we will become self-sufficient and provide jobs to thousands of unemployed. And we do not want any life to be lost in this way. Let’s all raise awareness and discourage going abroad illegally.
