Educational Stress And Teenage Suicide
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people aged 15-24. Suicide rates are increasing sharply in Bangladesh recently. Nowadays it is becoming more common on news and social media channels. The reasons behind a teen’s suicide or attempted suicide can be complex. One of the reasons is academic stress. It is a mental stress because of some frustration associated with parental pressure on high performances, worry over grade competitions.
Not only parental pressure but also from outsides sources such as relatives, school, friends, and even from neighbours. They just forget that the quality of all students is not same. They always try to compare one student with another. In every step of their academic career, students are stressed and depressed by success-obsession. Thus suicidal thoughts come.
Most of the parents are blaming their children comparing with others rather than building trust with them, paying respect to their interests with love, encouraging them to express their feelings, giving them good emotional responses, teaching them problem solving ways in difficult situations.
The more students share their problems, feelings, interests, issues and desire with parents, the better opportunities they get to progress without any stress. By doing this, suicidal tendency will also be decrease. Parents have to remember that Students are not robots. Everyone has unique ability and they have rights to do whatever they like.
