Take farmer-friendly policy to boost agri economy
Over half of the country’s total population is involved in the farming industry. If I clearly say, agriculture is the way of surviving more than 50% families in Bangladesh, especially those who live in the countryside.
For the last couple of decades, agriculture in Bangladesh is more about the crop sub-sector — mainly rice — what the farmers are still producing. However, in recent years, others sub-sectors like — livestock, forestry, and fisheries grew faster than the crops sub-sector. Even so, I still don’t find complete stability in the rural economy.
The government has been facing the challenge for the agriculture sector to stabilize the growth that achieved in the recent years, considering the declining of land per person, water scarcity, impact of natural disasters due to extreme weather, and others. There are still many challenges that the farmers face, though the situation in Bangladesh has improved the last few years, and there is a steady economic growth.
While so many people are involved in the agricultural sector; so that it would be wise for the government to take farmer-friendly agricultural policy to boost overall economy. That means, there should be easy loan with low interest rate for farmers along with availability of agricultural materials.
