We need a sports channel
The news telecast by the country’s television channels, including the State owned Bangladesh television, do not cover sports news on hockey, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, athletics, swimming, diving, rowing, cycling and world of soccer except European football. The TV channels cover European soccer, cricket, tennis and golf only, depriving the TV audiences of knowing what is happening in the world of sports.
More painful than it is there is no sports channel in the country compared with 10 in India. A year ago, we heard that the management of a private television channel might float a sports channel in the interest of the country’s sports. Since then much water has rolled down through the river Buriganga but the window has not yet been opened.
However, we will welcome any such move by any quarter. Will the government think overt the issue?

Road needs repairs
The Khilgaon Tilpapara Mosque-South Goran Road via Shantipur has been damaged at places due to continual rains last month. It needs quick repairing.
The durability of road and highway, street and avenue, lane and by-lane, and bridge and culvert depends much on the use of good quality of construction materials, maintenance of mixture ratio between cement and sand, and ban on the plying of heavy transports beyond the road capacity.
However, we like to request the Dhaka South City Corporation to take initiative to repair the damaged portion of the Tilpapara-South Goran Road on urgent basis.
