Death anniv of Tarek Masood, Mishuk Munir observed

The 11th death anniversary of Tarek Masood and Mishuk Munir was observed in Manikganj through various arrangements. On the occasion of the day, on Saturday (August 13) at around 11 o’clock, various social organizations laid wreaths at the memorials of the victims of the accident at Joka on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
The day was celebrated through human chain and tree plantation program demanding construction of safe roads and railway lines. Several social organizations including Manikganj Press Club, Dhaka-Manikganj-Paturia Railway Line Implementation Movement Committee, Barsik, Tarek Masud and Mishuk Munir Smriti Parishad participated in it.
At that time, the leader of the social movement, Deepak Kumar Ghosh, said that despite the agitation for a long time, this highway accident has not decreased. Therefore, road widening, railway line construction and traffic system should be strengthened to reduce road accidents.
Manikganj Press Club President Golam Sarwar Sanu and others demanded the establishment of a railway line on this road and urged the concerned authorities to be more active in controlling reckless vehicles on the road.
Besides, safe roads and railway lines were demanded from the program organized on Saturday to commemorate the incident.
It is to be noted that on this day in 2011, filmmaker Tarek Masud and journalist Mishuk Munir were returning to Dhaka from Shaljana in Manikganj after seeing the shooting spot of the movie ‘Kagjer Phool’. At this time, there was a head-on collision between a microbus and a high-speed deluxe bus going to Chuadanga at a place called Joka on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
Tarek Masood, Mishuk Munir, production assistant Wasim, Jamal and driver Mustafizur Rahman were killed in this incident. Apart from this, Tarek’s wife Catherine Masood, Dhali Al Mamun and his wife Delwara Begum Joli were injured.
