Getting justice is a dream for them
I still remember the dialogue what the former Chief Justice had delivered! Once, expressing severe frustration over weak governance, the then Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque said that law enforcement in Bangladesh was the “poorest of the poor” of the country. He had mainly focused that; there are so many laws that outnumber even England’s but the laws are rarely enforced, which is unbelievable in the civilised world.
We’ve a Constitution that protects fundamental human rights and promises equitable access to justice through fair trial, and equal protection of everyone. But the people who still living amidst poverty are ignorant of the existence of these laws and the protections of the Constitution. Getting justice is a dream for them.
So far I know, most of the poor people cannot bear the high costs of court proceedings. Besides, the corruption and apathy of many in law enforcement agencies, and the long delays in delivering justice usually push the marginalized and underprivileged communities into deep trouble. However, I do believe in that the situation will be changed and poor people will be able to get the justice in the future.
