Women alone not responsible for divorce
Divorce rate in Bangladesh is increasing and some people have put the blame squarely on independent working women for this trend. It is true that women are now more career-oriented than before. And a degree of financial independence has given them a sense of freedom.
It is unfortunate that people tend to hold the woman responsible for a failed marriage every time. But an analysis of why so many women file for divorce revealed that it is because of their husband’s extramarital relations, suspicious nature, drug addiction, among other reasons, that women sought to end their marriage.
Anti-women stereotypes in our society must be challenged.
