From the media report, we learned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 15 said “I believe that the people of Bangladesh will again make Awami League victorious by voting in favour of boat in the next election and let the development trend continue,”
We are feeling very upset by the word “again” because everyone knows what happened in the 2014 election, the ruling party at that time said that the election was held only for formalities sake, very soon another election will be held but five years have passed but that day never came.
Now only a few months are left for the election, people are feeling jittery not knowing what is going to happen, will there be an election at all? At one time Awami League turned the country up side down for a care taker government, their goal was achieved and a number of elections were held under it, people were also happy but suddenly with the stroke of a pen the CTG was abolished, people did not accept this move, they want the election to be held under a non partisan government and an election commission which is strong and capable. If these demands are not met we think people will refrain from casting their votes as they did in 2014.
Therefore, the ruling party must consider all the aspects and make sure that democracy be re-established.
