Farewell to Cricketer Masud
Former cricket pace bowler and umpire Ziaul Islam Masud is no more. He died on Sunday in a city hospital. He was 65. All the television channels telecast his death news while the national dailies carried his death news in their Monday issues. Though our subjects were different in the Honours and the Masters courses, we were good friends because of our love for sports. I shall always remember him for his polite behaviour and friendly manners with all irrespective of ages.
Masud’s home district is Pabna, precisely Pailanpur under Pabna municipality. He studied at the Pabna Edward College and the Rajshahi University. Though he was associated with left politics, he was an athlete more than anything. His most favourite discipline was cricket and captained Shah Mukhdom Hall in the inter-college cricket championship. He was also a member of Rajshahi University Cricket team.
I always found him standing calmly at Amtola close to the administrative building when we had no classes. He never disputed with any of his friends centering any issue. The best thing is that he remained devoted to cricket till his death.
