Clashes among farmers 1 killed, 17 hurt in Netrakona

One person was killed on the spot and more than 17 farmers injured, some of them critically, in a bloody clash between two rival groups of farmers at village Sibasrom under Modan upazila in Netrakona district yesterday (Monday).
Police and local people said, the clash occurred centering the issue of harvesting Boro paddy on a disputed land. The both groups used deadly weapons against each others during the clash.
The deceased have been identified as Moslemuddin, 70, son of late Nowab Ali from the village of Sibasrom, and Mosammat Asia, 50, from the same village.
Witnesses said, there had been a longstanding dispute over a piece of land claimed by both Moslem and Shahid as his own. The clash ensued when Shahid obstructed Moslem and his men from cutting paddy around 8am.
At one stage, Shahid hit Moslem with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot. The clash also left 17 other people injured.
Quickly after the incident, the injured persons were admitted to the Modan Upazila Health Complex. Some of them were, later,  
transferred to Netrakona Sadar Hospital and Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital for better treatment. After sometime, another injured woman died in Kendua Hospital.
On receiving information, a police team from Modan Police Station rushed to the spot and restored discipline, officer-in-charge of Modan Police Station SM Mofizul Islam said adding that the police team also sent the dead bodies to Netrakona Sadar Hospital morgue for postmortem.
Meanwhile, police started an investigation into the incident. None was, however, arrested till filing of this report, the OC said.
