A lesson to learn
None thought of such lamentable defeat, but it happened because of wrong selection of players, week planning, lack of conviction and Messy dependence. I am speaking of Argentina’s defeat on Thursday by a margin of three goals in the hands of Croatia in a first round match of the World Cup Football 2018. Soccer experts see early Argentine exit and a lesson that FIFA ranking and club based players cannot guide a team to victory.
Certainly those of the South American players who play in the European leagues have little feelings for their national teams. That is why the South American teams had no success in the last thee World Cups. The best prize was runners-up position Argentina earned in 2014.
I think that the coaches should give importance to the home-based players, as did the coaches in the past. I cannot say how far Brazil and Uruguay will do, but they must be cautious.
