Exploitation of Rohingya girls :
Bangladesh has received overwhelming international praise for giving shelter to the hundreds and thousands of Rohingyas fleeing the brutal ethnic cleansing in Myanmar. But now it is in the international news cycle again as young Rohingya girls and women are being sold into prostitution in Cox’s Bazaar and are being used by traffickers.
Apparently, the government and security forces have not done enough to stop this type of criminal activity.
As a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin, I was terribly upset when I saw BBC America expose how young Rohingya girls were being exploited by criminals in Bangladesh. I believe that the government should do more to protect those vulnerable girls. Otherwise, the good reputation that Bangladesh has earned for itself over how it has handled the Rohingya issue will quickly diminish.
