Review pay package of varsity teachers

Public university teachers have been demanding an independent pay scale, as the present pay scale does not compensate them for the service they render. The present salary structure for the university teachers in Bangladesh is too meagre to make both ends meet.
To press home their demand for an independent pay-scale and raising the retirement age to 67 years, teachers of different universities on July 6 staged a human chain on their respective campuses as part of a programme undertaken by the University Teachers’ Association Federation. We sincerely hope that the government will soon take necessary steps to fulfil their demand.

Death of football feared

Hosts Brazil meet Holland today in the play-off match for third place amid fears of death of football in that country. After drubbing (1-7) by Germany on last Tuesday, the morale of the Brazil footballers has reached its abyss and no body, not even the players, believe that they will be able to defeat Holland to recover a slight part of lost glory. The result of the match will decide whether football will live in Brazil or die.
Argentina coach Sabela learnt from the mistakes made by Scolari and guided his team to overcome stubborn Dutch. Germany struggled to beat Algeria 2-1 in the second round and drew with Ghana 2-2 in a group match, and as such the Germans have not gained super power overnight to crush team like Brazil by a huge margin. So, it is possible for Argentina to take revenge of their 1990 defeat.
The Brazil football holocaust has a lesson. If the team leader is unfit, his men will suffer and pay a heavy price. And there are some disasters from which recovery takes a long time. There are examples in our sight. So, utmost care should be taken to select the team leader.
