Unlivable Dhaka!

The government is continually saying that Bangladesh is prospering; development is going on in a full swing.
May be it is true in a sense, in a negative way. Dhaka has become the second unlivable city in the world, in environmental Performance Index this year Bangladesh has ranked 179, the worst in Asia, out of 180 countries, down from 173 two years ago. This is happening because the government is bent to build Rampal power plant near Sunderbans not caring how it will destroy the world heritage and the environment though people from all over the country are protesting vehemently.
Crimes of all sorts have increased in many folds, muggers have become more brutal, enforced disappearances has taken a fearful turn, murder and rape have increased alarmingly, even baby girls are not being spared who are also being killed.
Now the government is going further, in the name of security it is going to pass Digital Security Bill, which will be a great threat to people’s rights for freedom. They will have to remain silent about any injustice; will have to remain on guard always, their privacy invaded. Is this how development works, it is Bangladesh and everything is possible here.
