Reaching services to people in char areas underscored

Development of the extremely poor people living in hardly reachable char areas could be accelerated further through reaching government services at their doorsteps ensuring more accountability, speakers said Thursday.
They were addressing launching ceremony of a daylong Char Service Fair on the Brahmaputra riverbed at Notarkandi High School in Ostomirchar union of Chilmari upazila in Kurigram district organised by SKS Foundation under the Souhardo-II Programme.
With Assistant Teacher of the school Nazrul Islam in the chair, Agriculture Officer Ali Azam, Health Supervisor Babul Kumar, Filed Facilitators of SKS Foundation Ahsanul Karim, Shahid Parvez, Anisur Rahman and Shaher Kabir addressed the ceremony.
Upazila level Departments of Women Affairs, Agriculture Extension, Health, Fisheries, Youth Development, Animal Resources, Union Information Service Centres, different government and non-government organisations set up their stalls in the fair.
The stalls displayed citizen charters, government services being provided on health, hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, personal hygiene for adolescents, education, employment, agriculture, fisheries, livestock, animal husbandry, digitised ICT technologies, market facilitating and development activities, environment, disaster management, eradication of child marriage, dowry, polygamy etc.
Hundreds of char people of all ages including men, women, adolescents, housewives, teachers, students, farmers, fishermen, government and NGO officials and employees, local public representatives and elite visited the fair.
The speakers stressed making the char people aware about the government services and ensure reaching those to them in the remote char areas for improving their living standard and livelihoods through accelerating overall development.
They elaborately narrated different fields of providing services to the common people by the respective government department, related policies and other information for ensuring transparency and accountability in the service delivery process.
They put special emphasis on creating adequate awareness among both the service providers in government offices, organisations and service recipients including the people living in the hardly reachable char areas for attaining their sustainable uplift.
