KCC polls: Re-election in 3 centres today

Voting in three suspended centres of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will be held on Wednesday (today).
Returning Officer of KCC polls Md Yunus Ali suspended the balloting in the three centres during election on May 15 due to alleged irregularities.
The centres are: Iqbal Nagar Secondary Girls’ School under Ward No-24, Labanchara Government Primary School and Office of Ward Councillor under Ward No-31.
Talking to the media, Md Yunus Ali said that this
voting would not leave any impact on election results of KCC polls as the number of voters in the three centres are only 5,831.
According to the EC office, the voters of Iqbal Nagar Secondary Girls School will elect women councillor for No-9 reserved seat. BNP- backed candidate Mazeda Khatun is leading the reserved seat securing 12,194 votes while her nearest contestant independent candidate Ruma Khatun bagged 11,861 votes.
Meanwhile, independent councillor aspirant of Ward No 31 Arif Hossain is leading the race by securing 3,804 votes while two other contestants — Sheikh Zahangir Hossain (Incumbent Councillor) bagged 2,628 votes and AL- backed Asaduzzaman Russel secured 2,405 votes.
