Ravi Shankar’s daughter Anoushka Shankar has recorded
a sitar performance on the
occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh titled ‘Concert for Bangladesh.’ The
30-minute performance will be telecasted on Bangabandhu Innovation Grant (BIG) 2020
programme at some point in late March. Farhadul Islam, the coordinator of BIG 2020 programme
told the media about it.
Anoushka Shankar’s performance was recorded on February 25 at Abbey Road Studios in the UK. Founded in 1933, Abbey Road Studios is one of the most famous and elite studios in the world. It is well known for the world-famous band Beatles. Anoushka Shankar termed the recording time at the studio which bears the memory of George Harrison as memorable moments, said Farhad. People of Bangladesh will be able to watch the performance on television. Also, expatriate Bangladeshis can enjoy the show via Facebook and YouTube. Farhadul Islam said they wanted to make an exceptional arrangement to celebrate the Mujib Borsho and the 50th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh. That’s why they planned the programme with Anoushka Shankar. Although they wanted to organise the programme inviting her into the country, it had not been possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
